Learning together if fun!

Games are a great way to introduce a new topic.  We are starting a unit on counting on in addition.  Keeping the bigger number in our heads and just counting on.  For example, in the problem 6+2, we would keep 6 in our head and count up two...7, 8.

We continue to focus on one number every couple of days in hopes of helping your kiddos make strong number bonds that will stick in their brains.  For example, 6, 2, 8 have a bond.  6+2 and 2+6 will always equal 8 and 8-2=6 and 8-6=2.  Working on this should make addition and subtraction easier for them as they move onto more complex math.  The less they have to count on their fingers or use a number line to add or subtract, the easier higher math concepts should be for them.

We LOVE flashlight Friday!!  What a great bunch of readers in our class!  This was the first Friday it was actually dark enough in the morning that the flashlights were worth it.  Winter is on the way! :)

We get to read with our 4th grade buddies each Monday afternoon.  What fun!

Each month our friendly classroom Snazzy spider, asks us another question.  Sure is a nosy spider! :)
He wanted to know what our favorite carnivores were.  Sorry, I realize it is really hard to read some of these.  Next time I will write them down and list them on this page!
