Learning together if fun!
Games are a great way to introduce a new topic. We are
starting a unit on counting on in addition. Keeping the bigger number in
our heads and just counting on. For example, in the problem 6+2, we would
keep 6 in our head and count up two...7, 8.
We continue to focus on one number every
couple of days in hopes of helping your kiddos make strong number bonds that
will stick in their brains. For example, 6, 2, 8 have a bond. 6+2
and 2+6 will always equal 8 and 8-2=6 and 8-6=2. Working on this should
make addition and subtraction easier for them as they move onto more complex
math. The less they have to count on their fingers or use a number line
to add or subtract, the easier higher math concepts should be for them.
